We use photos to tell people where we’ve been, what we’ve witnessed and how it made us feel. Sometimes our iPhones are enough, but a photographer for business photos is essential to look professional and capture your brand. What session is the most fitting for you?
Here is a list of the most common types of portrait sessions.
Studio Portraits
This type of session takes place indoors in a studio setting, commonly using a backdrop and lighting setup. This session allows you to play with the lighting, posing, and props, to achieve the desired look. If you would like to reveal your profession in the image, usage of smaller props can help achieve that. A doctor, for example, could bring in his stethoscope.
Outdoor Portraits
This type of session takes place outdoors and provides your pictures with a more natural look. It also can give the viewer a glimpse of what your profession is depending on the landscape. For example, if you are a corporate lawyer, maybe you choose to get your photos taken in the city with high rise buildings in the background. If you are a yoga instructor, perhaps you decide to have your photos taken in a park, etc. Things to keep in mind would be permit costs. Both client and photographer need to be flexible as sessions may need to be rescheduled due to weather conditions.
Environmental Portrait
This type of session takes place that is relevant to the individual’s business or corporate identity. If your work environment is an office, a body shop or a warehouse, portraits within that space would be most authentic. Matching your attire with the work setting environment can help the portrait stand out even more. For example, a surgeon’s attire could consist of scrubs or a lab coat and most fitting for a mechanic could be a jumpsuit or branded attire. The environmental portraits are a great way to brand yourself, as you are giving the viewers a glimpse of you within your establishment without a word description.
