We use photos to tell people where we’ve been, what we’ve witnessed and how it made us feel. Sometimes our iPhones are enough, but a photographer for business photos is essential to look professional and capture your brand etc. What session is the most fitting for you? What and where will you be using the photos?
Anna Kobelak Photography has compiled a list of the most common types of sessions and their descriptions.
The Studio Session
This type of session takes place indoors in a studio setting, commonly using a backdrop and lighting setup. This session allows you to play with the lighting, posing, and props, to achieve the desired look. If you would like to reveal your profession in the image, usage of smaller props can help achieve that. A doctor, for example, could bring in his stethoscope.
The Environmental Session
This type of session takes place outdoors and provides your pictures with a more natural look. The client would need to be alright with, and prepared, to deal with the weather elements. It also gives the viewer a glimpse of what your profession is depending on the landscape. For example, if you are a lawyer, maybe you choose to get your photos taken in the city with buildings in the background. If you are a yoga instructor, perhaps you decide to have your photos taken in a park, etc. Things to keep in mind would be permit costs. Both client and photographer need to be flexible because sessions need to be rescheduled to weather conditions. Rainfall or high winds do not work.
The Work Environment Session
This type of session takes place directly in your workplace. If you already have the desired location, it can be beneficial and most authentic to shoot there. These photos would be of you in your workplace with the work environment in the background. Clients can add to work environment sessions with their attire. For example, if you are a dentist, you could be wearing your uniform or lab coat. If you are a mechanic, you could be wearing your jumpsuit or branded attire. You are also giving the viewers a glimpse at your establishment.
